England’s idealistic army marches to war, certain of a swift and glorious victory. France proudly rallies to defend her borders from invasion. But as nations clash, it is the common soldiers who pay the ultimate price in the bloody mud of the battlefield.
Marking the centenary of the First World War Armistice on 11 November 2018, Antic Disposition's critically acclaimed adaptation of Henry V returns for a final season of performances in ten of England's finest cathedrals, concluding in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon – burial place of William Shakespeare.
Performed by a talented international cast of British and French actors, the production celebrates the rich and often turbulent relationship between our two nations, from the Hundred Years War to the Entente Cordiale.
Moving effortlessly between 1415 and 1915, Antic Disposition’s Henry V combines Shakespeare’s epic history play with original songs inspired by the poetry of AE Housman, in a powerful tribute to the young soldiers caught up in conflicts five centuries apart.
